On my birthday Sept. 16, 1984 my mom gave me $100. On Sept 17, 1984 I bought a cheap guitar. I played a "D" chord and knew I would play the rest of my life.
I studied classical guitar at several universities and in 1985 I recorded my first album, "La Catedral". I started experiencing tendonitis and other muscle problems and realized I would likely need another profession.
For 5 years I was a youth minister at several Baptist Churches and continued to perform and teach. I decided to study computers and ended up doing database work ever since.
On Christmas eve 2000 I decided to record another album at my apartment.
I recorded “Silent Night” that evening. Later that year I quit teaching and performing.
In 2002 I went to Colombia, South America and met my wife, Sandra. We married and spent several years together before we had our first child.
Matthew was born October 5, 2006. He was a blessing and an inspiration. Sandra and I decided we needed to find a church and started going to Jersey Village Baptist church in February, 2008. Sandra was baptized and I was re-baptized in March, 2008.
July 28, 2008 my best friend, Kent Braxton, died from serious heart problems due to high blood pressure. As he lay in the hospital I decided I had to pray for him as well as play guitar. I realized I had nothing Christian to play and sang to him a cappella. I felt God was telling to play more guitar. I did not have much time because I have a young son, so I decided to play during lunch, in my car.
I wrote 12 songs and 1 year later I felt God wanted me to go to Romania on a mission trip. Because I was practicing guitar again I was able to devout my time to translation and ended up writing a song in Romanian.
Romania changed my life. I knew I had to help one special orphan girl name Rada. I worked with Another Child Foundation to open a group home for orphans and she is one of them. I know that I will help this group of girls for many years and look forward to serving them in any way I can.
In July, 2010 I started writing classical guitar music. I found that when I thought about people and events I could write music. You can read more about my originals by clicking “Music”.
I do not know what the future holds, but it will involve God, Sandra, Matthew, my family, music, and Romania.
